Military Caskets

Just like the armed forces themselves, military caskets have changed a lot over the years. Although the caskets serve as a grim reminder of the necessary sacrifice that young men and women must make in order to protect the country that they love, the casket is a necessary part of the funeral process.

More than two hundred years ago, caskets were mere wooden boxes that were stamped out uniformly for all Armed Force branches, whereas now these caskets are customized for each fallen soldier and are often more ornate than the caskets of private citizens.

The caskets are often hand embroidered and contain fine material like velvet, pewter accents, and silver piping. The cost of the caskets often can reach five thousand dollars, and are usually designed to commemorate the service of the Veteran. Often they are decorated in the colors of the branch of Armed Forces that the individual served in.

The exquisiteness of these caskets surely does not detract from the often brutal nature the lives of these brave citizens were given. The very individuals that end up filling these caskets make it possible for citizens to have the right to bury their loved ones in a land of freedom.
