Memorials are objects that reminds us of something, usually a person who has passed away or a significant event. The objects used for commemorating such events are usually sculptures, statues, gardens or anything else that will stand the test of time. Hence, generation upon generation will have a reminder of the event.

They can also be referred to as historical markers. Nowadays, with the advent of modern technology, internet tributes are showing a rise in popularity. Because of the easy access of online tributes, family members and friends from all over the world can connect to the web to share a private moment. They can do so at any time without having to worry about traveling to a physical location.

Today, despite all the new technologies, gravestones still represent the most common form of remembering somebody. It provides people with an actual location to still stay in some way connected to the deceased. In addition to gravestones, gifts are sometimes bestowed upon a charity, museum or school as another way of remembering the contributions to society of the departed one. The gifts can also be recurring ones that are handed out annually so that the memories last forever.
