Infant Urns

Infant urns are receptacles or special containers for storing and keeping the cremated remains or ashes of a deceased child. Because of the need to keep the memory and remains for a long time, care must be taken to ensure that the right type of urn is chosen.

The factors that influence the choice range from purely personal to cultural and practical considerations. Of course there is the question of price and design, even though by and large the cost is not prohibitive if you opt for conventional parameters. The idea being to preserve the memory of the departed child. Most funeral homes that offer cremation services will readily offer the necessary guidance on the available varieties.

Because of the symbolic nature of the storage, only a portion of the ashes need to be preserved. It is therefore desirable to opt for a reasonably sized urn for ease of carriage. Color and decoration themes vary from simple baby colors and designs to complex and elaborate or classic layouts.

The most common material is ceramic clay. It is however not uncommon for customers to ask for wooden or metallic, especially brass, containers. The latter two are generally hard to come by and generally more costly. In some cases if the required version is not readily available, the family should be prepared to wait for a few days for the order to be delivered. Especially in cases where you are requesting for a custom made design, unique material or inscription.

Cremation, though it is an ancient mode of burial, is slowly and steadily gaining acceptance, especially in global urban environment where land pressure and the cost of a decent cemetery or long term guarantees of a fixed spot are lacking.
