Custom CasketsWhen selecting a casket, one has the option of choosing from pre-made or custom caskets. Caskets have a history that parallels the history of mankind. As long as people have been dying, they have been laid to rest in one form of a casket or another. From the Vikings, who entombed their dead in ships, set fire to them and put them out to sea, to the crystal casket of Vladimir Lenin displayed so all could continue to pay homage to him, caskets have played a major role in our history. These days it is not unusual to have a casket specially built to reflect the personality of the loved one who will spend his or her eternal rest therein. Size, material, and adornment are all considerations when selecting a casket. They can be built to be plain or fancy, from wood or metal, and can be painted to reflect colors or designs that our loved one would have appreciated. They can be made to withstand time in a burial plot or vault, biodegrade on their own in the earth, or are made specifically for cremation. It is becoming more popular for artists to be engaged to adorn caskets, and whether they are sedate and conservative or wildly unique; whether they are carved or plain; wood or metal, the decision surrounding the selection of an appropriate casket should be made with care and should reflect what our loved one held dear in life. |
