The Cemetery

The cemetery is the place most of us will end up when we get laid to rest in eternal slumber. Some people have family plots next to their loved ones already picked out for there future. However, many of us do not have family plots to be laid to rest in.

Those of us that do not have the details of our final resting place all sorted out need to start planning. Areas to consider are headstones, monuments, graveside memorials, and markers for our grave.

We also need to decide on where we will be buried and what type of ceremony will be held at our grave site. These decisions are much easier to make when death is seemingly far away than when we are on our death beds.

Tips for choosing a burial place.

  • Choose a place that will be easy for your loved ones to visit.
  • Choose a site that is within your budget.
  • Choose an area that feels calm and serene to you.
  • Make sure and actually visit the gravesite rather than relying on pictures.
  • When choosing for someone else we must always remember that a cemetery can easily be considered one of the most important and symbolic locations in a person's life. It truly demonstrates an important aspect of humanity: our respect for our deceased and the lives they led. It is a place for quiet reflection on the relationships we had with our relatives and friends who have gone on to a better place.

It is always necessary to be respectful of the sacredness of a burial site to pay homage to those who have left us. Many people who visit the graves of their loved ones feel compelled to leave flowers, letters, crosses or other tokens to help themselves through the grieving process and to ensure the deceased, whether they are listening or not, that they will not be forgotten.

Lastly, it is important that the eternal resting place of a person be in a meaningful location, such as the town he or she grew up in, or a beloved vacation spot. This is not only to ensure that their last wishes be met, but also so that family members and friends who may visit them will feel the same joy that they felt when they were there.
