Cemetery Headstones

Choosing cemetery headstones is one of the most important and lasting decisions you will make as you make funeral and burial plans for a loved one. All the pretty details involved in the casket, vault, flowers, and services will ultimately be forgotten.

The monument you place will memorialize your deceased love one’s life and memory forever. There are a myriad of choices available and many criteria that dictate your selection. Granite is the typical stone used because it is the hardest stone available. The darker granite is usually more expensive than the lighter grays. You have the option of placing an engraved bronze marker on the granite. Marble is another choice, but more expensive.

While in times past, large vertical markers were the norm, a small marker is now the usual choice. The larger ones are usually reserved to denote family groups.

As you make this important decision, keep in mind that many cemeteries have regulations and standards to which you must submit your choice. While they cannot legally force you to purchase memorial markers from them, they can refuse your choice based on their specific standards.

They may or may not allow flower urns that are attached. They may have very strict standards about what sort of sculpted statues are allowed. There may be size requirements, or color restrictions.

If you are placing your memorial in a Catholic graveyard, you will probably have some additional standards to adhere to. Religious symbols are usually required. If you are using a small, family or rural cemetery, you may have problems with delivery. While most firms do offer free delivery, they almost always require a signature to confirm delivery.
