Catholic Cemeteries

Catholic cemeteries are prevalent in the United States and offer some benefits to Catholics not available at secular burial sites. Catholics consider the these cemeteries to be an extension of the parish and therefore to be sacred ground. It is consecrated or blessed by the bishop of the area, offering another bonus to those of the Catholic Faith.

This cemetery can also provide prayers on a regular basis for those buried there, unlike other non-Catholic burial places. The non-Catholic extended family members are also permitted to be buried that these locations in an attempt to keep families united even in death. This allowance is also extended to non-practicing Catholics and former Catholics in the hopes that reconciliation can be achieved, as long as there is no public scandal on-going. Reconciliation, in the Catholic Faith, is the unconditional forgiveness of sins by God.

Cremated remains are also allowed the right to final resting in mausoleums within the cemetery grounds. Pre-planning is always most desirable in order to ensure the wishes of the deceased be followed and is readily available.

Financial matters are considered in all cases and no one will ever be turned away from Catholic burial in a Catholic place of burial because of financial hardship. It is not mandatory for a Catholic to be buried in such cemeteries, but many Catholics prefer it as they see numerous benefits offered by such a cemetery versus a secular one.
