Cat MemorialsLike all tributes to pets or other animals we have loved, cat memorials can offer ways to treasure our feline companions. Art, jewelry, cremation urns, stones and markers are some of the ways pets may be honored and remembered. Considering the cat's personality, looks and whereabouts can be a great way to decide on a memorial that is truly suitable. Perhaps this cat has been especially dignified, friendly or funny; maybe it has spent loads of time out of doors, or in a particular place inside; maybe its name speaks as loudly as its purr. The cat’s qualities and your relationship with it go together to tell you how to honor your own needs as well as just exactly who this cat has been. Here are some examples: Include a very photogenic cat’s picture in the memorial by using a frame (even a digital frame), having a picture etched in stone or painted by an artist, or create an album to go with the memorial. If this is a fancy kitty, consider jewelry with its name, imprint or small keepsake urn. An outdoor cat might be well honored by choices of wood or stone. And if this is a very friendly cat, memorials for all its friends could be the way to go – for example, its name could be etched into a large river stone for the garden and into small pocket-sized stones for family and friends to keep. Further considerations are practical ones: where will the memorial be kept? Will it be permanent, or something portable? How can the choices acknowledge and include the whole family’s wishes? Losing a pet can be a sad blow, and choosing a thoughtful memorial can be very healing. |
