Burial Urns

Burial urns are something that many families choose as an alternative to expensive caskets and funerals. When the body is cremated, the ashes are put inside of these simple or sometimes even ornate containers.

Immediate families tend to keep the urn in the house as a memory of the loved one who passed away. Often these urns are decorated and expensive, but also a reflection of the deceased personality and lifestyle. They come in every material imaginable, from wood to more expensive metals such as gold or silver. There are even marble ones available for the wealthy.

This alternative to coffins has been around a very long time, possibly even before true burials. Burning the body was an easier way to deal with the dead, but also safer. Fewer diseases were spread this way. And after burning the body, many cultures felt that putting the remains in a vase or pitcher would help the soul rest easier. It can be said that urns have been around as long as burial ceremonies have taken place.
