Burial At Sea

Burial at sea is a peaceful and respectful funeral option for deceased loved ones who loved the sea while alive. The ceremonies are usually available anywhere that has large bodies of deep water. They can be preformed by ship captains or by clergy of the deceased religion.

Many religions have detailed instructions on how burials at sea should be preformed, which should be researched if the deceased would have appreciated the effort or the family is concerned about such things.

The sea funeral can be just like a traditional funeral, with only the burial being different. Normal religious and cultural practices do not need to be abandoned just to give the deceased the burial they would have wanted. The burial itself can take place in a variety of ways, including coffins, the body being placed in a sail, and the scattering of ashes after cremation. A newer method includes mixing the ashes with concrete and dropping it into a reef, as a form of artificial coral to encourage the growth of sea life.

There are companies that will scatter ashes in the sea for money, if the family can not attend the event because of time or money concerns.
